Özlem
Günyol & Mustafa Kunt
Scenes, photography, video, 2005.
For
the work, the artists were visiting the borders of Kosovo (Kosovo-Albania,
Kosovo-Serbia, Kosovo-Macedonia, Kosovo--Montenegro) and took
pictures in the tradition of landscape-photography. Each photograph
shows the countryside on both sides of the border. The artists
question the mostly invisble nature of borders and their construction.
The photographs are complemented with a video that documents the
backgrounds of the journey. This additional video counteracts the
on the first glance romantic visual repertoire and the focus shifts
to the problematic political and cultural frontiers of the Kosovo.
Özlem
Günyol & Mustafa Kunt (*1977/1978) live and work in
Frankfurt/Main. Both artists studied at Universities in Ankara
and at Städelschule Frankfurt/Main. In their installations
they deal with the formation of transcultural identities. They
question
the nature of national symbols and -borders and the their representation
in the landscape. |
